About Jakey

Jakey is an illustrative blackwork artist based in Sydney. Working primarily with dark imagery and high-contrast compositions, his designs focus on strong flow across the body and thoughtful placement, ensuring each piece remains clear and readable as it ages. He specialises in transforming client ideas into distinctive and personal tattoos, carefully considering composition, open skin, and longevity from the earliest design stage.

Jakey began tattooing in 2020 after exploring various career paths, always knowing art was where he felt most at home. Drawn to tattooing as both a craft and a human connection, he quickly developed a disciplined approach to the process. Beginning with detailed consultations, refining concepts alongside the client, and presenting a finalised design tailored specifically to the wearer. His work follows a structured method of linework, solid black application, and detailed shading, executed with patience and careful attention to comfort throughout the session.

Influenced by both nature and architecture, Jakey draws inspiration from organic forms such as branches and flowing water, balanced with the structure and permanence found in gothic and industrial design. He particularly enjoys technically challenging projects including palm tattoos, gap-filler compositions, and cover-ups, where problem-solving and creative adaptation play a central role in achieving a successful result.

Working within a private appointment studio environment allows him to focus fully on the experience as a whole. Jakey places strong importance on comfort, communication, and trust, creating a relaxed and welcoming space where clients feel involved in the process from the first idea through to the finished tattoo. He believes tattoos are a living art form — designed to age naturally with the wearer — and approaches each piece with the intention that it becomes a meaningful and lasting part of the person who carries it.
